Analysis of media representation of the United States of America's confrontation with the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic of Iran (with emphasis on content analysis of BBC Farsi and Iran International news 1398-1401 AH

Abstract

The present article seeks to analyze the representation of the two news organizations Iran International and BBC Persian regarding the confrontation of the United States of America with the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic of Iran from a discourse perspective in order to get a clear picture of the goals and intentions of the supporters of these networks. The focus of this article is on the two basic categories of sanctions and JCPOA as the focal point of this discourse conflict. It is expected that this research will lead to the identification of the discourse strategies of the mentioned media. Also, the themes used in the content of the messages, as well as the actors, organizations and focal issues of interest of these media should be identified. The method used in this research is Ruth Wodak's historical-discourse analysis. The result of the research revealed that the most important discursive strategies of the mentioned media are: "naming", "visualizing", "referential" and "news". Also, the most important themes used are: "Humanitarianism", "Right/Justice", "Economic/Financial" and "Peace/Security".
